Event Description

Veterans Day History
Veterans Day is a holiday observed annually in the United States in honor of all those, living and dead, who served with the U.S. armed forces in wartime. Some states observe the holiday on November 11 and others on the fourth Monday of October. Armistice Day, the forerunner of Veterans Day, was proclaimed in 1919 to commemorate the termination (at 11 am on Nov. 11, 1918) of World War I. On the first anniversary of the truce, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation eulogizing fallen Allied soldiers and referring to November 11 as Armistice Day. It became a holiday in the U.S., France, Great Britain and Canada. The holiday acquired its present name and broadened significance in the U.S. in 1954. In Canada it is known as Remembrance Day, and in Great Britain, as Remembrance Sunday.
Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Veterans Day
In the United States (U.S.) only very recently in some cities and towns have LGBT veterans been allowed to march openly in the Veterans Day parades. Normally LGBT are placed in the back of these parades. We consider this very discriminatory and so this year for the first time in US history inspired by Stonewall 2.0 we are going to do things our way. The website for more information and contacting folk is www.mypatriotspride.org it is available for people to register their event by filling out the contact page.. DOD FED GLOBE Executive Director Lisa Kove at email eyescu_92116@yahoo,com and Vice President Benny Cartwright at email bcartwright@cox.net . The date of the event is November 14, 2009 Saturday at noon. The intention is to have as simple as possible a typical LGBT activism grass roots march and rally in honor of LGBT veterans everywhere and anywhere in America.
The Process
Each veteran at the location have the event will wear a T Shirt of the service’s color and the name of their service. They will march in the front and hold either Pride and or USA flags. Behind them will be “The Peace & Justice coalition” and or similar groups, because we create our own definition of patriotism. Then everybody else will be behind them. All carrying signs that explain why Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) and Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is wrong as well as signs that support the positive Federal level legislation that is on the hill. When the marchers get to the rally location in advance 1 – 5 veterans will be chosen to speak for approximately 3 – 5 minutes about their service and these Federal level issues. Then the rally will end and the group will march back to return together to where their cars are parked. Sound system can be as simple as a bull horn and standing on a step of a crate or it could be more complex. The logistics is dependent on the grass roots organizers choices and up to them. The key is that we must get full blown press coverage so that another nail in the coffin will be hammered home pertaining to the injustice of the Federal level existing legislations of DADT and DOMA.

In San Diego the location is 1300 N. Coast Hwy
Oceanside, CA 92054. It is where we had the Seaman August Provost Vigil.

Please set this up in your town or city. It is easy to do and important to spread the word that LGBT will no longer be marginalized.
