Equality is Nonpartisan

A few years ago I drank the Kool-Aid and believed that obtaining Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) equality would be done via the political process and that the party I was aligned with would make the big
difference. I really believed and worked so very hard. Then that party
succeeded, but when I turned around they did provide the equality. In fact I
saw and heard them over and over again support those that do not support LGB T
equality. In fact I experienced this again recently.

 

So then I and massive quantities of LGBT and allies kept wondering what is going on? Then I noticed that the other major party actually started moving on LGBT equality in a positive sense. Now I’ve come to the conclusion that both of the major parties have on occasion helped, but more
often have been obstacles to equality.

 

Then this community has found its only salvation recently in the courts. The bigotry toward the LGBT community is being found to be unconstitutional. Most of the Judges with these positive findings for the LGBT community are political members of the party that was not claiming to stand for LGBT equality.

 

It really is time for the conversation to change in America about the LGBT community. No more shall we sit back and bite our tongue when the heterosexist phrase is spoken; “Marriage is between 1 man & 1 one woman.

 

Now we must TELL TELL TELL that our families are equal and no matter what unjust legislation might exist that LGBT families and people are just as good as anybody that they issue a marriage license too and let serve in the military.

 

It is time to know that prejudice statements are no longer an acceptable type of communication. That it is inappropriate and hurtful. As such it is time to respect the dignity and self worth of all people everywhere.
