DOD FED GLOBE launches the “National Value Project”
Project will document the contributions of LGBT employees and service members of the federal government
DOD FED GLOBE has announced the launch of the “National Value
Project”, an initiative that hopes to gauge the contributions of
lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people to the
federal government, be it through military service or civil service
employment or as a contractor. DOD FED GLOBE is seeking copies of
awards, commendation letters, and other documents that prove
exceptional service from LGBT people. The documentation will be
utilized to compile a report that will be sent to other LGBT
nonprofit leadership located in our nation’s capital. So that they can work directly with Congressional and other officials in all areas of the federal government employ people so they can begin to recognize the value of this wonderful population.
“The government likes to see numbers and reports. By gathering
copies of awards and other commendations we will be able to analyze
the value of LGBT people to the federal government, including the
monetary benefits of these employees,” said Lisa Kove, executive
director of DOD FED GLOBE. It is known how many LGBT
people actually work for the federal government or serve in the U.S. military. Some reports estimate that over 66,000 LGBT people serve in the military, with most serving in silence.
According to Kove, “As we work to overturn the harmful ‘Don’t Ask,
Don’t Tell’ policy, it is important that Department of Defense
realizes that gay people do not create a problem for the military-
they are actually contributing amazing things every single day.”
Kove also noted that DOD FED GLOBE is working to establish a “LGBT
History Day” within the Department of Defense. “Just about every
minority group known has some sort of appreciation or history day,
week, or month within the DoD – except LGBT.” An LGBT History Day
would provide employees within the Department of Defense the
opportunity to learn about the diverse LGBT community
and recognize the contributions of their LGBT co-workers.
DOD FED GLOBE has partnered with LGBT history archives across the nation to collect documentation. All LGBT employees of the federal government, no matter which branch or division, should send one positive letter of appreciation or commendation to DOD FED GLOBE at firstname.lastname@example.org. Those currently serving in the military or others who prefer confidentiality should black out any identifying information. DOD FED GLOBE will keep all submissions confidential and use the information to compile its’ report.
